Eric Estornel, better known as Maceo Plex, has graciously offered two phenomenal mixes ahead of the release of his forthcoming album, Solar. On his birthday, the Spanish legend took over the Essential Mix decks to outline his biggest influences in audio form. Dipping into a variety of vintage and modern sounds in techno, electronica, and house, Estornel painted a colorful backstory to his musical style.

Prior to his introspective Essential Mix, Maceo Plex incorporated a plethora of new music into his Ellum takeover set at Boiler Room Ibiza. Opting to shed his darker identity in favor of a more minimal and groovy one, the Ellum boss touched emotions by choosing tracks with more robust melodies and thought-provoking chord progression. Of course, his dark side can’t be abandoned completely, and he breaks up the set nicely with select shots of creepier pieces that get the heart racing. The set was recorded on October 1st, and has just been released by Boiler Room to stream through their website and Soundcloud.
